چکیده

The nucleon spin structure has been an active, exciting and intriguing subject of interest for the last three decades. Recent experimental data on nucleon spin structure at low to intermediate momentum transfers provide new information in the confinement regime and the transition region from the confinement regime to the asymptotic freedom regime. New insight is gained by exploring moments of spin structure functions and their corresponding sum rules (i.e. the generalized Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn, Burkhardt-Cottingham and Bjorken). The Burkhardt-Cottingham sum rule is verified to good accuracy. The spin structure moments data are compared with Chiral Perturbation Theory calculations at low momentum transfers. It is found that chiral perturbation calculations agree reasonably well with the first moment of the spin structure function g1 at momentum transfer of 0.05 to 0.1 GeV but fail to reproduce the neutron data in the case of the generalized polarizability δLT (the δLT puzzle). New data have been taken on the neutron (He), the proton and the deuteron at very low Q down to 0.02 GeV. They will provide benchmark tests of Chiral dynamics in the kinematic region where the Chiral Perturbation theory is expected to work.

Recent precision spin-structure data from Jefferson Lab have significantly advanced our knowledge of nucleon structure at low Q2. Results on the neutron spin sum rules and polarizabilities in the low to intermediate Q2 region are presented. The Burkhardt-Cuttingham Sum Rule was verified within experimental uncertainties. When comparing with theoretical calculations, results on spin polarizabili...

Burkhardt-Cottingham sum rule and forward spin polarizabilities in Heavy Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory

We study spin-dependent sum rules for forward virtual Compton scattering (VVCS) off the nucleon in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory (HBChPT) at order O(p4). We show how these sum rules can be evaluated from low energy expansions (in the virtual photon energy) of the forward VVCS amplitude. We study in particular the Burkhardt-Cottingham sum rule in HBChPT and the higher terms in the low ...

Spin Sum Rules and the Strong Coupling Constant at large distance

We present recent results on the Bjorken and the generalized forward spin polarizability sum rules from Jefferson Lab Hall A and CLAS experiments, focusing on the low Q2 part of the measurements. We then discuss the comparison of these results with Chiral Perturbation theory calculations. In the second part of this paper, we show how the Bjorken sum rule with its connection to the Gerasimov-Dre...

Jefferson Lab’s results on the Q2-evolution of moments of spin structure functions

We present the recent JLab measurements on moments of spin structure functions at intermediate and low Q2. The Bjorken sum and Burkhardt-Cottingham sum on the neutron are presented. The later appears to hold. Higher moments (generalized spin polarizabilities and dn 2) are shown and compared to chiral perturbation theory and lattice QCD respectively.

New Results on Nucleon Spin Structure

Recent precision spin structure data from Jefferson Lab have significantly advanced our knowledge of nucleon structure in the valence quark (high-x) region and improved our understanding of higher-twist effects, spin sum rules and quark-hadron duality. First, results of a precision measurement of the neutron spin asymmetry, A 1 , in the high-x region are discussed. The new data shows clearly, f...
